Below are some of the things that we discussed during the workshop on Tuesday 12/02/2019 (take away messages and tips).
Strategies for searching the literature:
1) Break down the title of your review to the individual concepts and terms
2) Search each one of these terms/concepts using any resources that you have at your disposal, google search is very helpful at this stage
3) Make sure you study and understand each one of the terms/concepts
4) When you have gained a good understanding of the general concepts/subject of your review you can start now searching more targeted the academic literature
5) Use KEYWORDS! Do not use the whole title or whole phrases from your title to do your searching
6) Start by the immediate keywords that are present in your title but you need to generate more keywords for a more effective searching. Many words in your title will have synonyms and other terms closely related to them that will help you to find all the important articles for your review.
7) When you use your keywords please consider both english and american spelling, e.g. aromatisation vs aromatization
8) All you need is to find some key articles that can guide your search and also give you ideas for additional keywords.
9) A good strategy it is to identify early on, any other reviews in your subject or closely related that were published in previous years.
To find these reviews search in web of science with the relevant keywords and then limit your results to reviews only, with the filters available on the left of the results page.
